Best of British: Old Town – elegance & industry, with love from Norfolk…
Entering the premises of Old Town in the delightful Norfolk town of Holt is like entering a vanished world, with its wood panelled walls, bolts of traditional cloth and buzzing sewing machines. A warm welcome awaits from Mr Brown and Miss Willey, who will obligingly talk you through their amazing range of clothing and fabrics.
Old Town started nearly two decades ago, and since then has quietly carved out a well-deserved reputation for its practical, individual and really rather timeless clothes, which are as home in the country as in the middle of the urban sprawl.
Very reasonably-priced for what are essentially handmade items and available in a huge range of quality fabrics – Harris tweeds, linens, flannels, luxurious corduroy and tough twills included – Old Town’s clothes possess an understated sense of style that runs the gamut of society, from shopkeeper to lord of the manor, and effortlessly evoke the high points of 19th and 20th Century design.
From elegant Edwardian-style lounge suits to Peter Pan-collared dresses, robust sailor-style trousers and traditional bib type aprons, Old Town’s range is always evolving in an exciting way. They’re clothes to wear, cherish and pass on to your children! For the latest developments, be sure to check their News Extra blog, and do take a gander at the really rather lovely Piccadilly Pleasures photo gallery.
Oh, Old Town, how we love you!
